Baseball - starting from the beginning

Baseball is a sport of English origin. Its creation dates back to the 18th century. The equipment needed to start a baseball game includes: a ball, a bat, and a glove. This is a sport that can be played on outdoor or indoor courts. Although it is a more common game among male participants, it is also played by women's teams.

In baseball, each team has nine players, and each team member has a well-defined role. The game doesn't have a pre-established time limit, like in soccer for example. Therefore, it can vary from an hour and a half, when the game is easy for one of the teams, to six hours, when the teams are very evenly matched. The game only ends after nine alternations between offense and defense.

On the field - what is the objective of the game of baseball?

During a baseball game, teams alternate between offense and defense nine times. The team on offense must score runs and changes its position from offense to defense every time three of its offensive players are eliminated. The team on defense tries to prevent the opposing team from scoring runs and attempts to eliminate opposing offensive players. The defensive position changes to offense every time the team manages to eliminate three of the opponent's offensive players. In other words, the teams switch positions as soon as three batters are eliminated.

Every time a baseball is thrown by a team, the opposing team must try to hit the ball and run around the four bases that make up the baseball field as quickly as possible. The objective is to score by hitting a thrown ball with a baseball bat and then running around the four bases of the field. A player on the attacking team can stop at one of the bases and then advance with the help of a teammate's hit. One turn of offense and one turn of defense for each team represents an inning, and nine innings make up a professional baseball game. The team with the most runs at the end wins.

What is the function of each position in baseball?

1. Pitcher or pitcher - This is the team's main player, as their role is to throw the baseball, aiming to prevent it from being hit by a player from the opposing team. A good pitcher is very important on a baseball team.

2. Catcher - The catcher also has a key role, which is to catch balls thrown by the pitchers if they are not hit by a player from the opposing team.

3. First base - Its function is to defend the first base and cover plays made there.

4. Second baseman - Their role is to occupy second base and, together with the first baseman, execute a play called a double play.

5. Third baseman - Their role is to occupy and defend third base, as well as cover plays that may be made there.

6. Shortstop - Responsible for occupying the spaces between second and third base. Their function is to cover the second base area in case of a double play.

7. Left fielder - This player is responsible for defending the left side of the field.

8. Central midfielder - This player is responsible for defending the central part of the field.

9. Right-sided midfielder - This player is responsible for defending the right side of the field.
